New Google Maps For iOS Update Brings With It A Widget We All Have Been Waiting For
Google Maps for iOS has been updated for iPhone, iPad, and it brings with it a widget which many of us will find absolutely useful.
New Google Maps Widget Will Tell You How Long It Will Take To Reach Home Or Work
Since the launch of Google Maps app on iOS, we have come to witness a bunch of great feature additions over a span of many months. Today, Google is taking things up a notch and has updated its Maps app for iOS, bringing with it a new 'Travel Times' widget for Notification Center.
The way how 'Travel Times' widget works is absolutely awesome. If you've set a 'Work' or 'Home' location already in Google Maps, then the widget will show you right from Notification Center how long will it take to navigate to said locations from your current position. In other words, you don't have to launch the entire Google Maps app itself to do the same, saving you a ton of time while also blessing with you a load of convenience.
If you want to try out the widget right away, then simply swipe down to bring up Notification Center, swipe to the 'Today' view, scroll down, tap on 'Edit,' add the 'Travel Times' widget and then tap on 'Done' at the top right hand corner. From here on in, whenever you swipe down to show Notification Center, you'll see a widget outlining the time it will take to reach your home or work place. Neat and intuitive.
Apart from this addition, the new Google Maps app brings with it more goodies as well. The complete changelog from the App Store is as follows:
• Use the Travel Times Today Extension to quickly check traffic on the way to home and/or work (require home/work to be saved)
• Easily share directions with your contacts
• Night mode and distance units settings in navigation
• Bug fixes
If you're currently relying on any other mapping solution on iOS then we highly recommend that you at least give Google's service a shot. It's absolutely free, and it's packed with a ton of details which you can't find anywhere else. That's a swift shot towards Apple very own Maps app.
Google Maps is absolutely free, and you can download it from here. And remember, the new Travel Times widget is only useful if you have your home or work location defined in Google Maps itself.
