God of War Will Have Dynamic Combat Between Kratos and His Son Atreus
Since God of War was first introduced and we knew that this time Kratos would not be alone (he will be accompanied by his son Atreus), many fans had some uncertainty regarding the style of the game that would have to be implemented to have a functional companion who integrates correctly into the game’s experience.
Sony Santa Monica’s Marketing Producer Aaron Kaufman recently revealed that the father-son interaction will be accompanied by dynamic combat.
As part of the recent issue of Official PlayStation Magazine, he talked about God of War’s combat system and what we can expect from the presence of Atreus while Kratos confronts the enemies of the game.
In that sense, Kaufman stated that we will encounter many situations of dynamic combat in which Kratos and Atreus will be able to deal in order to end a monster. The director exemplified his statement by describing a particular situation: “There’s a really cool move where he [Atreus] jumps on the back enemy’s back and you hit the Square button, which is for the son, and he’ll jump on the enemy’s back and start firing arrows, and then you can throw your axe. And that’s just one example of the dynamism between him [Kratos] and Atreus.”
Also, it was confirmed by Kaufman that God of War will be a full-fledged sequel to the previous game which will take place in the same universe. “It’s an indeterminate amount of time between the end of God of War III and the beginning of the game,” Kaufman said. “We wanted to put Kratos on a deeply personal quest.”
Please note that God of War will be available exclusively on PlayStation 4 in early 2018, which probably means in the first quarter (between January and March).
