Facebook Launches ‘Events’ App for iOS, Coming Soon to Android
Facebook has launched a dedicated Events app for iOS users. The app is available to download immediately, but Android users have to wait.
Facebook Gives ‘Events’ a Dedicated Space with New Standalone App
When it comes to socializing and planning, nothing beats what Facebook has to offer. But in all the Facebook noise, some things tend to get clouded up, with people missing out on special events. Knowing how important events can be, and how much people make use of them to find nearby activities and whatnot, Facebook has decided to give Events a separate space, in the form of a dedicated app.
The Events app, from the looks of it, seems pretty important in what it does. Rather than being a barebones version of Events we see in the main Facebook app, the new offering takes things to a whole new level.
From Facebook’s press release on the matter:
Today we’re announcing Events from Facebook, a new app we designed for event seekers who are passionate about keeping up with nearby events and finding things to do with their friends. Whether you’re looking for something to attend this weekend or just wondering what’s happening in your area, Events will help get you there.
The way how the app works is pretty simple. First of all you download and install the app, sign-in using your credentials. After that you are presented with all the events your friends have created, the ones from the Pages you have joined, and lastly, keep track of the events you are already connected to.
Events from Facebook even has a brilliant recommendation engine that works according to the time of day. It even recommends you stuff based on your location and your interests. It’s actually pretty smart, and you’ll probably end up finding something useful nearby.
If you’re looking for something to do this weekend or even right now, you can easily browse event recommendations based on time, location and your interests. Explore events happening where you are or in places you like to go using the interactive map. You can also search for events in any city if you’re planning ahead for a trip.
Users will be able to keep track of everything in the calendar. You will also be able to see when you are free and at what time you are attending a particular event. Last but not the least, the events you interact with will show up on your Facebook timeline so that others know as well what you are up to. But you can, of course, change that setting to keep things private.
The Events app from Facebook is available to download right now for iOS users. Android users can expect to download it sometime in the future, with Facebook having no official word on its precise release.
