This year’s big smartphone launch is undoubtedly Apple’s iPhone X. While other flagships made impressive upgrades, it’s the iPhone which steals the spotlight. This isn’t entirely due to new and innovative features however. Rather, it’s because Apple finally made a lot of critical upgrades to its lineup; upgrades that the Android world features for quite a while. However, other features on the iPhone X, mainly Face ID, are a first for flagship smartphones. So, is the high priced gadget worth buying? Consumer Reports’ take on the matter is out. Consumer Reports Claims iPhone X’s Rear Camera Is The Best It’s Ever Tested; Phone Loses Out To S8, iPhone 8 Plus In Battery Performance

Both Apple and Consumer Reports came to the limelight recently, after the latter described Cupertino’s MacBooks as the worst in its history. That was due to the notebooks developing battery life problems and the issue has since been rectified by Apple. Now the widely trusted ratings agency is back and this time its Apple’s hottest product of the year, the iPhone X’s turn.

The agency’s reaction is mixed for the iPhone X. So let’s start from the smartphone’s rear camera. Consumer Reports claims that this camera is the best rear camera for a smartphone that it’s tested so far. This is a big claim as we’ve got plenty of strong contenders out there, which include Google’s Pixel lineup. Face ID is equally reliable, with the only drawback being that you’ll have to learn new gestures designed to replace the Home Button’s removal.

However, the agency isn’t equally impressed with either the iPhone X’s durability or the smartphone’s battery life. Their testing suggests that while the iPhone X is very durable against standard 5 foot drops, the smartphone is unlikely to survive damage after the first fifty drops. Given that repairs for the device are very costly, Consumer Reports suggests that you either buy a case or AppleCare + for it. And we concur with them.

Finally, despite having two batteries, the iPhone X fares worse than the iPhone 8 Plus and Samsung’s Galaxy S8/S8+. The X lasts 19.5 on a full charge, with full brightness. The iPhone 8 Plus and the S8s last 26 hours respectively, which is a significant difference. For waterproofing, the iPhone X lasts for a full 30 minutes at a depth of 30 feet. Thoughts?
