For years, Zombies mode was not-so-secretly the main focus of Treyarch’s Call of Duty games. The studio devoted a ton of care and effort to Zombies, transforming something that started as a minor Easter egg into a rich, fan-favorite experience. Unfortunately, it seems Treyarch’s devotion to Zombies has waned with the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.

Since Black Ops 4’s release, Zombies fans have complained of technical issues, including game-ending crashes and other bugs that impede progress, and fixes have been slow to arrive. Playing Zombies also doesn’t contribute to Black Ops 4’s new Contraband progression system. Overall, the feeling is Zombies has got the short end of the stick this time around, which is a shame, given the mode has been such a core part of Treyarch’s CoD games in the past.

Well, Treyarch has heard the complaints, and are vowing to whip their walkers into shape. The latest Black Ops 4 update included some Zombies fixes, and the developer is promising further improvements

“We want to take this opportunity to address [Zombies] stability issues, particularly during Easter Egg quests: game stability is and will continue to be the number one priority of the Zombies development team until these issues are resolved.

In our most recent major game update, we added new technology to help us track down the more complex Zombies crashes, and these tools now allow us to isolate the issues with the highest frequency. We’re working through that list in priority order, and we will be releasing several fixes over the course of the next few updates. The complexity of variables in Zombies Easter Eggs presents the team with a unique set of challenges in reproducing, fixing, and thoroughly testing the fixes before release. As such, they take a little longer than our regular updates, and we appreciate your continued patience.”

Black Ops 4 reboots the Zombies lore and takes a page from Assassin’s Creed, as four new characters (Bruno, Diego, Shaw, and Charlotte) travel to different time periods to slaughter the undead as they try to take down a sinister cult. Zombies launched with three maps, IX, Voyage of Despair, and Blood of the Dead, which is a remake of the Mob of the Dead map from Black Ops II. You can get more details here.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is available now on PC, Xbox One, and PS4.
