The Apple Watch Series 2 is a heavily improved iteration of the very first wearable, and it looks like the company is going to focus on what was missing on the current-generation smartwatch with the announcement of the Apple Watch Series 3. A manufacturer has reportedly entered the supply chain group that is responsible for shipping out key components for the assembly of the wearable and it looks like the next-generation smartwatch could be announced much sooner than expected.

Upstream Supply Chain Sources Claim That Apple Watch Series 3 Could Be Announced During Apple’s September Keynote

The manufacturer that has entered the agreement with Apple is Compal and according to sources to the matter, the product will start to ship during the second half of this year. Since companies belonging to the supply group have declined to comment on its orders as well as the clients it has partnered with, and DigiTimes continued to remain unsuccessful on this front.

Right now, Apple Watch orders are being handled by Quanta Computer and the Apple Watch Series 3 wearable is also expected to be manufactured by the Taiwanese-based manufacturer. However, with Compal entering the fold, it looks like part of the Apple Watch Series 2 production will be given to the latter. In terms of shipments, Apple has been the most successful company when it comes to smartwatches, holding a dramatic lead against its biggest rival in the smartphone and wearable industry, Samsung.

For Compal, becoming a partner of Apple is definitely a dream come true. The manufacturer is an ODM for notebooks but looking at the growth of other industries, the company wants to get into the market of producing other tech-related goods such as wearables and IoT devices. According to the latest statistic, Compal is quite proficient when it comes to making miniature devices, as the company shipped five million wearables and IoT devices in 2016.

We can expect a multitude of features from the Apple Watch Series 3, but what do you think are the areas which Apple should target the most? Let us know your thoughts down in the comments.
