AMD Ryzen Threadripper Processors and X399 HEDT Platform Expected To Launch on 10th August
AMD is expected to launch their HEDT X399 platform and the Ryzen Threadripper processors in early August as reported by Kitguru. The new X399 platform will feature a very high-end platform design, supporting massive processors with up to 16 cores.

AMD kicked off this year with an impressive product we now know as Ryzen. Based on their Zen core architecture, Ryzen processors deliver exceptional performance at very competitive prices. These processors have widely disrupted the CPU market, offering amazing efficiency and overall performance compared to competitors.
While Ryzen was initially targeted at mainstream platforms, aiming at the sub-$500 US market, AMD is going to turn it up a notch. To do so, they are going to release their first HEDT (High-End) Desk top platform known as X399 which is beefier than X370 (AMD’s top mainstream platform). X399 will include a new series of processors, featuring a grand upgrade over mainstream chips. These chips are known as Ryzen Threadripper and as per Kitguru, would be launching in early August.
From what we have heard from sources close to KitGuru, AMD should launch Threadripper around the 10th of August, after moving the date from a late July launch. This is what we have heard through industry contacts and if true, would mean we will be seeing AMD and Intel square up once again, this time in the HEDT market. via Kitguru
The Grand Slam Between Intel and AMD Begins This Summer With High Core Count Processors and HEDT Platforms
The AMD Ryzen Threadripper processors launching in the summer will feature up to 16 cores and 32 threads. Reports have alleged that the entry level 16 core chip will cost around $850 US with high tier chips costing more. We know that the lineup will have multiple SKUs with Alienware having a Threadripper 16 and Threadripper 12 core model confirmed for their Area-51 Threadripper edition OEM PC. Models will feature the “Ryzen Threadripper 19** (X)” series naming scheme and will be very competitive in terms of price and performance.
The X399 platform on the other hand is taking things to the extreme, offering up to 64 PCIe lanes of which 60 will be utilizable by discrete graphics. The platform will feature Socket TR4 that has 4094 pins and is the largest HEDT socket shipping to date. The socket will be surrounded by a quad channel DIMM interface that can support extreme capacities. So overall, we can expect the Ryzen Threadripper series to be an extremely powerful entrant in the HEDT market.
While immensely powerful, it doesn’t mean that competitors will remain silent. Intel also has their Core-X series announced which features all the way up to 18 cores on Skylake-X processors. Their X299 platform is now available to pre-order on multiple retail sites.
While Intel has generally priced their chips higher, the higher core count variants are expected to deliver some great multi-tasking performance when they launch in October, with a 12 core model arriving in August. It will be really interesting to see how AMD Ryzen Threadripper (X399) and Intel Core-X (X299) series compare to each other when they are available to consumers later this summer.
