AMD Athlon 5150 and Athlon 5350 AM1 Socketed Kabini APUs Start Selling in US – Official Launch on 9th April
According to CPUWorld, AMD's latest Kabini APUs which include the Athlon 5150 and Athlon 5350 have started selling in US market prior to their official launch next month on 9th April. The new Kabini APUs would be feature support on the new AM1 socketed platform which will deliver consumers with a low-cost platform which offers upgradability.

AMD will launch two tiers of the Kabini APUs, one with the Athlon branding and the other with the Sempron branding. Both brands will feature two Kabini APUs with different specifications and configurations. The AM1 lineup as a whole consists of four Kabini APUs and the socketed nature of the platform allows upgrading with easse. The Kabini APUs will feature support for DDR3 memory rated at 1600 MHz, upto 4 x86 Jaguar cores, graphics core next architecture and a couple of I/O technologies such as SATA 6 Gbps, USB 3.0, HDMI, VGA, Display port outputs.
The AM1 socketed motherboards themselves won't feature any PCH and all the I/O and controllers would be fused on the Kabini APU itself. This saves a lot of room off the motherboard and reduces the cost of the platform itself. It is estimated that the entry level Kabini APU and motherboard combo will cost just around $60 US. The packaging of the Kabini APUs is pretty simple and the pictures from the source shows a simple box which carries the processor and cooler. The cooler isn't bulky since the APU has really low TDPs and the heatsink is good enough to keep the chip running adequately.
The two Kabini APUs which are available in US market include the Athlon 5350 and Athlon 5150. The Athlon 5350 is a quad core processor operating at 2.05 GHz and comes with 2 MB cache. It features a Radeon R3 graphic chip with 128 cores that operate at 600 MHz. The Athlon 5150 is a quad core processor operating at 1.60 GHz and comes with 2 MB cache. It features a Radeon R3 graphic chip with 128 cores that operate at 600 MHz. The chips both have a TDP of 25W which is quite good for desktop consumers aiming to build media boxes and HTPCs with these processors. The Athlon 5350 will retail for $54 US while the Athlon 5150 will retail for $45 US.
Similarly, AMD is also preparing the Sempron E-Series APUs which will also include two SKUs. These include the Sempron 3850 and Sempron 2650. The Sempron 3850 is a quad core with 128 GCN cores, core is clocked at 1.3 GHz while GPU is clocked at 1450 MHz and features a 2 MB cache. The Sempron 2650 is a dual core with 128 GCN cores clocked at 1.45 GHz core and 400 MHz for the GPU featuring 1 MB cache. These chips also feature a 25W TDP. Prices for the Sempron APUs will be adjusted around $30 - $40 US.
