Amazon users can now rejoice as the official app is now available to download for tvOS running on Apple TV 4.

Amazon's tvOS App is Somewhat Crippled, But a Treat for Prime Members

Users have been waiting for the official Amazon app to arrive on tvOS for a long time. Now that it's here, there are a few things everyone should know about before they frantically click that download button. First and foremost, the app is pretty basic, unlike the ones available for iOS and Android. Secondly, the app can be utilized only by those who have a Prime membership at hand. That last bit of detail might put a lot of users off though.

Browse, Search, get product details, read reviews and see immersive product images and videos for millions of products available from and other merchants. Prime membership is required to make a purchase on your TV.

Sign in with your existing Amazon account to browse and search for products. Use dictation to search for products using your voice. Browse through immersive product images and videos. Buy on TV using your remote, or add to list to review later on your phone or computer.

While the app is geared towards Prime members, but the software is still limited in a lot of ways. For example, you cannot use the app to listen to music or watch videos that fall under the umbrella of your Prime membership. The app's sole purpose is to allow users to browser through products on Amazon, and eventually buy them. You can even set to review a product later, allowing yourself to initiate the purchase from your smartphone, tablet or computer.

If you do have a Prime membership at hand and are looking to enhance your shopping experience then the tvOS version of the app is worth a shot. There's nothing more futuristic than buying your favorite pair of shoes directly from your big screen TV. The app is absolutely free to download and you can grab it directly from the App Store in tvOS.
