AirPods Randomly Disconnecting During a Call? Apple is Investigating the Issue
If you are experiencing an issue with the AirPods disconnecting during a call, then don't worry, Apple is actively investigating it.
iPhone 6s & iPhone 6s Plus Users Experiencing Call Disconnection Issue with AirPods
A new issue has come to light just recently where the AirPods fail to maintain a steady Bluetooth connection with an iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus. During a call, the AirPods tend to disconnect and reconnect on their own. But interestingly, while playing music or anything else apart from a call, the earphones maintain a solid connection with the iPhone without any sort of issue at all. It has also been revealed that only one earpiece drops the Bluetooth connection while the other one stays in tact.
The problem does not seem to affect iPhone 7 users at all, as those upgrading from an iPhone 6s are reporting to have no issues whatsoever. If you go through the Apple Support Communities right now, you'll see a lot of users complaining about this problem. So, if you are experiencing it too, then you will be pleased to learn that Apple is actively investigating the issue. Whether the fix will arrive as an iOS software update or in the form of something else remains to be seen.
It was originally believed that the Bluetooth dropout issue happened if an Apple Watch was connected to the iPhone. But that's not the case at all, as pointed out by MacRumors:
Initial reports suggested the dropout issue only occurs if users also also have an Apple Watch paired to their iPhone, but MacRumors was able to replicate the problem with a Fitbit Blaze, suggesting a more general conflict when other Bluetooth devices are also connected.
If you were hoping to fix the issue by reseting your earphones and connecting them back with your iPhone, then you'll be disappointed to learn that this trick does not work. But, the only solution to the problem is that users should utilize just one earpiece to attend calls rather than both.
We will update users as there is more news regarding this issue in the days to come so stay tuned.
