Before the imminent launch of Xiaomi’s Mi 5 and Mi Plus, we will bearing witness to a handful of leaks, including ones provided by the company. Previously, it was mentioned that Xiaomi Mi 5 was going to be feature a sub-$400 price and would be powered by a Snapdragon 820. The release date of the smartphone was locked on to the month of September, but it appears that the handset, along with the company’s Mi 5 Plus could be unveiled as early as July 16, which is only six days from now.

If Xiaomi Mi 5 Gets Unveiled This Early, Then It Might Not Feature A Snapdragon 820 After All

According to Chinese microblogging website Weibo, a teaser image with the initials ‘P’ and ‘K’ are present on an image that has been teased by the company. When it comes to deciphering cryptic letters and wordings, we aren’t what you would refer to as experts but we know this much. Xiaomi has made no claims to announcing any other products besides Mi 5 and Mi 5 Plus. Sure, there was a handset codenamed Xiaomi Libra that was sporting a Snapdragon 808 and 2 GB of RAM, but its hardware specs were only leaked yesterday.

The closest products belonging to Xiaomi at this current point are Mi 5 and Mi 5 Plus. However, if these two handsets are slated for a July 16 release date, then it means that we will not be able to witness the Snapdragon 820 in action. Snapdragon 820 is expected to arrive in handsets during Q4, 2015, and July is far too early for Qualcomm to begin assimilating its SoCs in mobile devices.

That being said, it appears that Mi 5 and Mi 5 Plus might be sporting a Snapdragon 810 chipset, along with slightly improved hardware specs as compared to Mi Note Pro. For starters, Mi 5 would possess a 16 MP rear camera sensor, along with a 3,500 mAh battery.

It is said that a fingerprint sensor might also be present in the upcoming smartphone duo, but looks like we are going to have to and see if this is legit or not. Additionally, Xiaomi might be keeping parts of its activities clandestine and plans to unveil a completely new product on the aforementioned date. Unfortunately, we have no clue as to what this product is, but whatever it is going to be, the release date is not far off.

What do you guys think? Will Mi 5 and Mi 5 Plus be showcased much earlier than expected? Let us know your thoughts.
