Western Digital or better known as WD has announced a new line of hard disk drives that have been specifically designed for use in home and small office network attached storage (NAS) setups.

The new Red Series comes in a 3.5 inch form factor with the capacities availability in 1, 2 and 3 TB respectively. All drives feature SATA 6 GBPS support along with 64 MB of cache.

The drives have been designed for NAS systems that feature from one to up to five drive bays. These drives have been thoroughly tested for compatibility with majority of the NAS box manufacturers while being further optimized for power and performance.

The new Red line drives come with an interesting new feature called 3D Active Balance Plus enhanced balance control technology feature that should significantly improve overall drive performance and reliability.

The new Red Line WD drives will retail for $109, $139, and $189 for 1, 2 and 3 TB drives respectively. All come with a 3 year warranty and 24X7 dedicated support from WD.
