How to Use iPhone As Magnifying Glass in iOS 10
Here’s how you can use iPhone as a magnifying glass if you have iOS 10 installed on it. The feature is handy if you are visually impaired.
iOS 10 Allows You to Use Your iPhone As A Magnifying Glass
Apart from iOS 10 features Apple is actively flaunting, the company packed in Accessibility related enhancements under the hood as well. For the visually impaired, Apple has baked in a new feature under Accessibility that allows a user to quickly use the iPhone as a magnifying glass. How to set it up and how the feature works, we’ll walk you right through it.
1. On your iPhone or iPad launch the Settings app.
2. Go to General then tap on Accessibility.
3. Here you’ll see an entry called ‘Magnifier.’ Tap to open it up.
4. Turn the Magnifier toggle switch ON and press the Home button to exit everything.
Whenever you want to zoom in on anything, simply triple press the device’s Home button which will launch the camera instantly. But that’s not all – you’ll see a zoom slider under the viewfinder along with a toggle switch for turning the device’s flash on or off.
I tried this feature on multiple devices such as the iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s and the iPhone 7. To my surprise, the iPhone 7 performs the best when zooming in as it offers better low light performance compared to every other iPhone out there. But of course, that doesn’t necessarily mean that other iPhone devices will perform miserably. This feature will get the job done no matter what. And if things are too dark, then you can always utilize the device’s flash to brighten things up. No biggie.
I’m actually quite surprised why Apple didn’t announce this feature on stage earlier this year. Despite being an Accessibility feature, this is worthy of a highlight no matter what. Also, if you did manage to try the above feature, do let us know about it in the comments section below. Lastly, do not forget to recommend this to people who are visually impaired. This might just end up helping someone in need.
iOS 10 is a free update to everyone with a compatible device. Devices from iPhone 5s all the way up to the latest and greatest iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are supported.
