At the launch of the Samsung’s latest flagship duo, the company showed off its virtual assistant – Bixby. It was dubbed as one of the most exciting features on the Galaxy S8, giving competition to Apple’s Siri, Microsoft’s Cortana, Amazon’s Alexa, and Google Assistant.

Unexpectedly, the company today dropped a bomb by announcing that Bixby assistant is still in works and it won’t ship with the Galaxy S8 that is releasing in the US on April 21. This news would certainly disappoint the buyers who have been waiting to try out the Bixby assistant on the Galaxy S8.

Samsung gave a statement to Axios, wherein its states describes that “key features” such as Vision, Home, and Reminder, will be up for access by users along with augmented reality in the Galaxy S8’s camera app, but Bixby Voice would not be there on the device. The company also said that Bixby Voice would not come until later this year in the US.

Here’s the statement by Samsung:

Key features of Bixby, including Vision, Home, and Reminder, will be available with the global launch of the Samsung Galaxy S8 on April 21. Bixby Voice will be available in the U.S. on the Galaxy S8 later this spring.

Admittedly, without Bixby Voice, the whole essence of having a “voice assistant” goes in vain. One of the most fun features on any virtual assistant like Siri and Cortana is their voice, which provides a sense of bonding with the software. Samsung did not give any reason for the delay in Bixby Voice rollout, but it is certainly a letdown since Samsung hyped the feature so much at the time of launch.

At the launch of the Galaxy S8, Samsung claimed that Bixby offers full voice control on the device, “Anything you can do with touch, you can do with voice,” the company said. The importance of Bixby on the Galaxy S8 lineup could be judged by the fact that it boasts a “dedicated” button on the device.

It is worth mentioning that many reviewers of Galaxy S8 in the US did point out that Bixby is buggy on the device. However, Samsung did not acknowledge those remarks. It would be interesting to see if the company releases any official statement for explaining the delay.
