New PlayStation 3 SKU could bring back PS2 game compatability

Posted 5 years ago

Sony ihas released a new SKU, under the name of CECH-3000B the SKU will feature lower power consumption, a little lighter and will pack a 320GB Hard drive but the main feature of the SKU is not in the reduced weight, power consumption. This is the first and only Slim model of the PS3 to bring back the ability in Launch Model (FAT) 60/80 GB PlayStation 3’s to play PS2 games (Original of course) but the price is something the consumers should really watch out for, for a 320GB this is a pretty steep price.

While backwards compatibility was a great feature in the launch model PS3’s it was lacking in the new slim models which really made people a little disappointed, but Sony has answered your prayers and has made the return of PS2 game backward compatibility to the Slim line of PS3 consoles, while the price is somewhat steep (34,980 YEN) I hope that Sony looks into a price revision.

The system itself is ready for sale and is probably exclusive to Japan as always and will soon hit US retail outlets in the coming future while most PS2 games are getting HD Remakes now a days (God of War 1 and 2, Sly trilogy, Beyond Good and Evil) some games are still missing such as Devil May Cry 1-3, Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 but while their HD remakes are on the way there are other numerous games on the PS2 that definitely deserve an HD remake like Viewtiful Joe, Okami (With Move support would be awesome) and my personal favorite; Max Payne 1 and 2.

Microsoft Knew They Had A “Chance” Against Sony When PS3 Price Was Announced

For now players can look into the new SKU and enjoy the PS2 games they have in their closets once more!

EDIT: It has come to my attention that Google Chrome mistranslated the term

“This product, “PlayStation 2″ are having a compatibility “without” proprietary software.”.
