Official CyanogenMod 10.1 Android Jellybean ROM Available For Galaxy S3 (MetroPCS, US Cellular)

Posted 4 years ago

Samsung Galaxy S3 is one of those lucky Android devices that now boast of an official Android 4.2.1 Jellybean CyanogenMod 10.1 custom ROM nightly! Previously, we discussed emergence of a non-official Android 4.2.1 Jellybean CM 10.1 build, However, the build has far too many bugs for anyone to give it a shot. We are sure that many ROM flashing enthusiast must have tried it on their phones, but the end result was that it required a lot of work to make it stable and get the necessities to functions. For now, this nightly CM 10.1 build for the Samsung Galaxy S3 is limited to Samsung Galaxy S3 variants by  MetroPCS and US Cellular.

Today, things are a bit different as the official nightly is now out and you can easily download it and flash it on your phone without much of an ordeal. For those who don’t know, CyanogenMod is a custom Android AOSP based firmware for select Android device. The main motive of this firmware is to optimize user experience and device functionality which OEM software is very bad at. CyanogenMod builds are compiled from AOSP source code and you don’t find any branded applications by manufacturers lingering on. CyanogenMod nightly builds are beta versions of an upcoming stable ROM and these ROMs aren’t always stable and lack some features which are identified and fixed in stable / release candidate versions of these builds.

Please note that this ROMs will only work if you have a Samsung Galaxy S3 from MetroPCS and / or US Cellular. We believe that CM 10.1 ROMs for Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon and AT&T are under process and they will be released soon.

Since this is a nightly ROM, we won’t be giving out instructions to install this once since it can leave many of you clueless about certain bugs and issues that you may encounter post-flashing. However, for those who still want to give this a try, please head to the official CyanogenMod nightly ROM download portal and get the zip file. After you have the zip file, you can easily install it via ClockworkMod / TWRP recovery after wiping cache and data.
