Sci-fi fans rejoice! Today we get a glimpse of Luc Besson’s return to space – Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets.

Based on the long-running French comic book series Valerian and Laureline, this slick trailer offers an intriguing glimpse into The Fifth Element director’s return to sci-fi.

Starring Amazing Spiderman 2’s Dane DeHaan (Valerine) and Suicide Squad’s Cara Delevingne (Laureline) this trailer teases a typically dysfunctional Besson relationship. With plot details still light, all we know is that the story will focus on our time traveling intergalactic duo Valerian and Laureline as they attempt to prevent the galaxy from experiencing time paradoxes.

Impressively, in under two minutes this trailer manages to squeeze in almost every galactic genre trope. Space ships? Obviously. Big Guns? Yep. Colourful CG aliens and glistening neon cities? You bet.

Having collaborated with the comic’s creator Jean-Claude Mézières on The Fifth Element back in 1999, here’s hoping this reunion results in the kind of brilliantly bizarre sci-fi movie fans have been pining for.

Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets hits theatres July 21, 2017.
