Rumor Claims iPhone 8 Will Come with Fast-Charging Support
The lack of fast-charging support on both the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus isn’t fair for consumers who are paying a hefty sum to experience Apple’s fluid mobile operating system. Naturally, with the iPhone 8 being a complete overhaul in terms of design and functionality, we are going to a see a large number of upgrades, two of which you’re going to read about right now.
Upcoming iPhone 8 Rumored to Provide Support for Fast-Charging as Well as a Tap to Wake Function
According to the latest rumor, Apple’s iPhone 8 is finally going to come with support for fast-charging (via Forbes). What this could mean is that the company will start bundling chargers that will be able to deliver higher amperage compared to their predecessors. With the iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus, if you use the standard Lightning cable that comes with the handset and charge it using a certified charger that delivers higher amperage, the battery of both phones will charge at a much faster pace. Using a certified charger with your current-gen iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus is recommended if you want to reduce the charging time by a huge margin.
Most certified chargers can deliver up to 2 amps, while more expensive ones are able to deliver up to 2.4 amps. Looking at its Android smartphone competitors, Apple is actually way behind this since with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 announcement, future devices will come with Quick Charge 4.0 support, resulting in even shorter charging times. At least one flexible attribute of the upcoming iPhone 8 would be that while removing the headphone jack, it will come with wireless charging support.
The second feature that is rumored to come with the iPhone 8 is something that is readily present on Android devices and is called ‘Tap to Wake’. Android smartphone fans are probably going to have a good laugh reading this, but the upcoming iPhone 8 will allow users to tap on its screen, which will illuminate the display, allowing them to view notifications. If you pick up your iPhone and bring it closer to your face, the screen will also illuminate and show you the notifications that you haven’t read about, so the ‘Tap to Wake’ function might not be as helpful as one would think.
