Apple had seen fit to release the new iOS 11 beta a few days back. While the update did not carry any major front-facing feature, there was an addition of a new charging sound file. A Polish YouTube user by the name of MAKS+ claims that he has discovered a brand new sound file in the most recent build of iOS 11 beta. Could the new charging sound be hinting to the iPhone 8’s wireless charging abilities? Let’s dive in to see some more details on the subject.

iOS 11 Beta New Charging Chime, Could It Associate To The iPhone 8’s Wireless Charging Functionality?

MAKS+ added the video on YouTube, including both the current charging sound of the iPhone, iPad and iPod along with the new charging sound, which he claims to have discovered in the latest iOS 11 beta. If you happen to have an Apple Watch, you might have noticed that the charging sound on your wearable is different than that of the iPhone when the wearable is connected to the magnetic charging dock.

If Apple is to add the wireless charging feature in its forthcoming iPhone 8, then probably the company will add a new charging chime as to distinguish it from wired charging. However, this could not be the case as well as the company could add the existing charging chime to both methods of charging as well. Moreover, since there’s no official statement on the company adding wireless charging to this year’s iPhone models, we should not make any final conclusions at this point in time. The video has been embedded below, do check it out for more details on the new charging sound.

As you can listen to the new charging sound named “engage_power.caf” it is pretty different than that of the current one. Moreover, it is more distinct and a bit longer than the current sound. The current or regular charging sound is named as “connect_power.caf”. Nonetheless, another aspect to look forward to is that there are various sounds in iOS that Apple has not assigned any functionality to. So possibly, this could also remain idle.

Apple is also working on the  long-range wireless charging, which would mark itself as truly wireless. The iPhone 8 on the other hand is expected to add a simpler solution via inductive charging, something we’re already familiar with in the Apple Watch. If wireless charging is to come with the iPhone 8, the company would also have to release some kind of a device to hold the iPhone. There will be more to the story, so be sure to stay tuned in for that.
