Thunderbolt 3 over Type-C USB appears as such a tiny port but its uses and possibilities are far more than what different interfaces are able to achieve. LaCie has thus introduced a new storage product called the 2big Dock and it takes advantage of the Thunderbolt 3 throughput to connect to notebooks and machines via USB-C. For creative professionals or companies that want to move around large amounts of storage at faster speeds, the LaCie 2big Dock might just be the answer to your problems.

LaCie 2big Dock Is a Premium RAID Storage Solution and Can Accommodate up to 20TB of Data

Ultimately, the 2big Dock is going to be targeted to professionals who have embraced the Type-C USB and Thunderbolt 3 standard and want to handle, store, or transfer ample amounts of storage. For the 2016 MacBook Pro users that like to handle a lot of data, this product is definitely a godsend because it features front-facing SD and Compact Flash Card slots to store and transfer data from action cameras, drones, and high-performing video cameras.

Using the Thunderbolt 3 standard, it can seamlessly connect to 1080p and 4K displays and the dual-Thunderbolt 3 ports allow it to connect to a notebook while being daisy chained up to five additional Thunderbolt 3 peripherals. There is also a single USB-A 3.0 port located at the front of the 2big Dock.

With storage capabilities going up to 20TB, LaCie claims that users can storage up to 650 hours of 4K 30FPS footage or 200,000 RAW images. Additionally, the dock supports up to 440MB/s, which is something that you will need if you are going to be transferring heaps of storage from one machine to the other.

To keep the internals under the recommended thermals, there is a cooling fan present inside the aesthetically wondrous aluminium chassis. LaCie resellers will start to sell the 2big Dock starting this summer, and only then shall you get to know how much it costs.
