iPhone 5s fingerprint sensor troubles:
With Apple’s latest iOS 7.1, it was hoped that iPhone 5s fingerprint sensor would be improved. Earlier leaks and notes also indicated that Apple is working to improve the performance of its Touch ID sensor. Although Monday’s public release of iOS 7.1 brought in a number of new features, improvements and general bug fixes, seems like Touch ID wasn’t one of them.
In the release notes too, Apple mentioned that Touch ID performance has been improved. As the reports are coming in, a plenty of iPhone 5s users are finding iPhone 5s fingerprint sensor even worse after upgrading to iOS 7.1. iPhone 5s owners report that after upgrading to the latest iOS 7.1, Touch ID has stopped working and placing their finger on the Home button no longer unlocks the device.
These users have also reported that rebooting iPhone 5s or disabling / re-enabling Touch ID isn’t fixing the issue as well. According to reports, things get even weirder when iPhone 5s fingerprint sensor just stops detecting their finger. Although, the most plausible fix could be to reset the Touch ID; however fingerprint recognition doesn’t seem to work during the new setup process as well.
User: After installing iOS 7.1 Touch ID stopped working. When I put my finger on the sensor nothing happens.
I already tried rebooting and switching Touch ID on and off. None of that seemed to work. Is there anyone else experiencing similar problems?
Right now I’m trying to set up a new fingerbrint but it doesnt even start scanning when I put my finger on. It just doesnt do anything. I have a feeling that the sensor might be broken…
Another user: Something really weird is happening right now. After letting the iPhone rest for about 10min I had a “repeat” sign on my lockscreen after putting my thumb on the sensor. What I tried afterwards is adding a new finger in the settings. The first 3 clicks worked perfectly but afterwards it just stopped. It doesn’t even react to my finger. No Vibration, nothing. After waiting a few seconds it worked again, but just until the next vibration. Now it doesn’t do anything.Advertisement
Note: The sensor is perfectly clean, my fingers aren’t wet or anything, nor did I brake my iPhone recently.
iPhone 5s Touch ID sensor was a popular features when launched. However, since then it has received a lot of user critique after failing to be at par. Previously, it was reported that Apple is trying to work with original Authentec team to improve Touch ID performance. With this latest release, seems like we are still a bit far from a good fingerprint recognition system.
