Install CM10.2 M1-Build Android 4.3 Jelly Bean on Verizon Galaxy S 4 SGH-I545

CyanogenMod 10.2 has been released for a plenty of Android devices in the past few days. And now you can download a stable M1 build for Samsung Verizon Galaxy S 4 SGH-I545 too. CyanogenMod team has finally come around to releasing a stable version of their latest custom rom CM10.2 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean; CM10.2 M1 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean Custom ROM. Given the fact that Google has already released Android 4.4 Kit Kat, it should not be long before CyanogenMod team shifts gears and attention towards the latest and greatest in the Android ecosystem.

Prerequisites

  • Backup any important data from your Verizon Galaxy S 4 SGH-I545 as a complete wipe will be required during the flashing process.
  • Enable USB debugging option on your device: Settings > Development Options > USB debugging.
  • Verizon Galaxy S 4 SGH-I545 must be rooted, unlocked and installed with a recovery tool like TWRP or CWM.
  • Your device must be charged to at least 60% of power.

Note: this tutorial is focused on Verizon Galaxy S 4 SGH-I545; kindly do not try this guide on other Android & Samsung devices.

Install CM10.2 M1-Build Android 4.3 Jelly Bean on Verizon Galaxy S 4 SGH-I545

  1. Connect your Verizon Galaxy S 4 SGH-I545 with the PC, via USB cable.
  2. Download the afore mentioned CM10.2 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean M1 Build file and copy it to the SD card of your phone.
  3. Disconnect your phone and switch it off. And make sure that you wait 5-6 seconds to complete the power down cycle.
  4. Now, you will boot the Verizon Galaxy S 4 SGH-I545 into recovery mode, by pressing and holding down the Volume Up button, alongside Home and the Power button, until the screen flashes, release the three buttons then. After a few seconds of that, the phone will enter recovery mode.
  5. Once in the recovery mode, take a Nandroid backup of your existing ROM. This is necessary, to enable you to recover your current ROM install, just in case the new ROM does not perform according to your liking. In order to perform a backup, select Backup and Restore, then on the next screen, select Backup again. Go back to main recovery menu after backup is complete.
  6. Once done, select wipe data/factory reset, select ‘Yes’ on next screen to confirm your action. Wait for a few minutes until the phone wipes your data. Once complete, go back to CWM recovery menu and Wipe Cache Partition and then Wipe Dalvik Cache.
  7. Select install zip from sdcard, then select choose zip from sdcard. Now, locate the cm-10.2-20131102-SNAPSHOT-M1-jfltevzw.zip file that you copied earlier in Step 2 and select it by pressing Power button. Confirm installation by selecting Yes. Install the said zip file on the next screen. The ROM installation will begin.
  8. Once, the phone finishes installing the ROM, you need to re-do step 7, but choose gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip file instead of ROM zip to install the Google apps package.
  9. When GApps get installed, go back to the main recovery menu and select reboot system now to reboot the phone and boot up into customized Android 4.3 Jelly Bean ROM CM 10.2 M1-Build. The first boot will take time, so be patient!
