Instagram recently joined the ranks of services that allow users to enable two-factor authentication for enhanced security of their accounts. Gmail also uses this security layer for protecting the accounts from hackers. The two-factor authentication on Instagram puts double checkpoints for login. The user has to enter the password and a unique code to access the account on a new device.

We would recommend every Instagram user to make use of this security factor as it will keep your account intact by saving it from the hackers. When two-factor authentication is enabled, Instagram sends a security code to your registered mobile number.

  • Enter your phone number in case you have not registered it earlier. After entering the mobile number click on “Next.”

Note: After enabling two-factor authentication for your Instagram account, you will be able to access backup codes for your account. These codes will come handy when you don’t get an SMS security code during the login process. By using any one these codes, you’ll be able to log into your account.

The two-factor authentication menu contains the Backup Codes. Copy these codes and store them safely on your device. You can also take a screenshot of these codes. We would recommend storing these codes in your e-mail. The screenshot of codes can also be saved on Google Photos or any other cloud storage. In case, you ever feel that your backup codes have been accessed by someone else then you can request Instagram for generating new codes.
