Facebook-owned Instagram was released for Windows mobile in April. A few months later, today, Instagram made its debut on Windows 10 PCs and tablets as a standalone app. Let’s see some more details on Instagram for Windows 10.

Instagram For Windows 10 PCs And Tablets Is Now Available

Instagram for Windows 10 PCs and tablets is available thorough the Windows Store. The app is what you would expect from Instagram – you can browse feed, view the Stories feature that Instagram launched recently as well as make use of Direct messages. Other than this, the Instagram for Windows allows you to search, access your own profile and also offers the Explore tab functionality.

Previously with Instagram’s Web app, you did not have the ability to share posts on social media like Facebook and Messenger. Now, you can do so from the context menu. Use “…” button to access the share screen. It’s definitely good to see that Instagram for Windows rests on par with its mobile app. However, there are a couple of aspects that needs work, which we will talk about later on.

The most important aspect of the app – posting photos is also part of the standalone Instagram for Windows app. However, you must have a backward facing camera and a touch screen laptop to do it. Basically, the app has been optimized for Windows 10 tablets and it distorts the layout on PCs with great white spaces.

The controls of the app are more or less the same for a touchscreen laptop. The app makes use of trackpad gestures as well. You can scroll through the feed using two fingers and swiping left takes you to your direct messages. As nifty as it is, the app’s layout could have been improved further.

Once you use the app, you’ll see a lot of white blank space, especially on the left and right side of the display. The blank space could have been reserved for comments, much like what Facebook does. Nonetheless, we’re glad it is here. It’s uncanny how Instagram has launched an app for Windows 10 PCs and tablets, but not on the iPad. Most likely it will be available to iPad users soon, so be sure to stay tuned for that.

This is it for now, folks. What are your thoughts on Instagram for Windows 10 PCs and tablets? How important is it for you to have Instagram on your PC? Share your views in the comments.
