Galaxy S7 Can Survive A Water Submersion Test For Over 16 Hours

Thanks to Lou, the man in front of the cameras in the popular YouTube channel Unbox Therapy, the individual decides to go all out with a Galaxy S7 by attempting to place it in water to see for how long the device can last. Both Galaxy S7 and S7 edge are IP68 certified, and according to the company, they can survive up to 30 minutes in up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) of water.

The experiment revolved around Samsung’s flagship smartphone being submerged inside a jar full of water while being powered on and it was able to remain functional after going through an aquatic gauntlet for 16 hours and 36 minutes. However, we should mention that a minimum amount of pressure is exerted on to the smartphone when it was submerged in a glass jar filled with water so the entire scenario can change immediately depending on the depth of water.

Regardless, it is still a very impressive feat from the company. Apart from being IP68 certified, the Galaxy S7 family is also MIL-STD-810G certified; this means that it resists the following from entering its chassis and compromising its internal circuitry:

  • Salt
  • Dust
  • Humidity
  • Rain
  • Vibration
  • Solar radiation
  • Transport
  • Thermal shock
