Default Ad Blocking in Google chrome

Chrome does not come with any ad blocking. If you know how google makes money, you'll see why this is so.

Given the recent "fiasco" over advertisement here I thought i'd share this with anyone who is using chrome:

AdSweep - An ad blocker for your favorite web browser (like Adblock)

The website has all that you need to get ads blocked on chrome (i've tried it and it works)

For those who dont like to scroll through miles and miles of text:

0. Upgrade to chrome 2.x
Click on the spanner top-right and then "about"

1. Download this file:
AdSweep.user.js
from AdSweep - An ad blocker for your favorite web browser (like Adblock)
This is linked right under "Chrome", "User Script"

2. Locate Chrome's user directory:
This is located here
Quote:
C:\Documents and Settings\XXXXX\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\
For Vista:
Quote:
C:\Users\XXXXX\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\
XXXXX= user name

3. Now create a folder called "User Scripts" in there:
This should then look like this:
Quote:
C:\Documents and Settings\XXXXX\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\User Scripts

4. Copy the file downloaded in step #1 to this place

5. Right click on Chrome's shortcut and append the "Target" field with:
--enable-user-scripts

e.g. For me this looks like:
Quote:
"C:\Documents and Settings\XXXXX\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --enable-user-scripts
Note the appended bit is outside the QUOTES and there is a SINGLE space after the last quote

6. Close all active Chrome windows

7. Restart Chrome

8. Log back to: AdSweep - An ad blocker for your favorite web browser (like Adblock)
You will see a red bar on the top right with the version number for the block

I TAKE NO CREDIT FOR THIS. I DID NOT DO THIS. I am posting this for the benefit of those who need an ad blocker from chrome

ps. Since using the blocker my problems with accessing wccf have gone away!
