Hey guys,
Most of you now must have noticed services like
YouTube,
GoogleVideo,
MySpace,
iFilm etc that provide users a platform to upload and view videos. Probably this trend started of with a bunch of people uploading and showing their skills in video editing, video photography and some trying to express their creativity. Which is great. Its starting a new culture on the Internet, its a developing market which is moving really fast and tech companies are trying to keep up with the pace. However bitches like
RIAA seem to have a problem with music videos being spread about on the net

Mind you. From the start of MTV and the likes, music videos were (and still are?) promotional so that viewers go out to CD Stores and buy the album. On the Internet, lots of communities have mushroomed that rip videos and share them. Places like
MediaBurial,
AntiPopVideos,
VideoPimp,
UCV etc and many others on IRC. Since the advent of such communities distributing music videos via the Internet or Postal Mail, the RIAA thinks this is piracy. See what other users on
SlashDot had to say about this story.
Some of you must have come across the '
numa numa' video of this fat guy singing some techno song. Its almost a year old and was one of 2005's most viewed/distributed amature video over the internet. The story came on CNN too. Then there was the
Star Wars Kid (very amazing.
Original is hilarious towards the end) and the
Ronaldinho one and
Brokeback of the Future ... Here's
the top 8 story by TIME.
There was this
Internet is for Porn video which got lots of views. Its a funny musical made by a couple of WoW (World of Warcraft) users and one of them might have been the editor. Doomer posted about
Real Life Tekken. That was really cool. Especially the special effects. Then this dude with a guitar does the
Super Mario Bros soundtrack. And if you want to get grossed out, see
this
A new thing has started on the net: Video Blogging or
Vlogging
Here's a podcast i usually listen to,
TWiT, who did an
episode on 'Vlogging' ... World Cup fanatics check out this
world cup video blog! They've got lots of videos. Plus
PeekVid has some matches uploaded.
As video streaming on the Internet is catching popularity, now there are sites popping up that have uploaded tons of old videos, cartoons, tv shows etc. Of course there have been places in underground internet for over 5 years who have everything in high quality. But sites like
PeekVid are starting to take advantage of this popularity.. They've got cartoons in so-so quality

- old and new - like Felix, Transformers, Batman, Sonic, Ghostbusters and
lots more... Here's a
post on Digg that gave a link to
300 TV Shows and
500 TV Shows on YouTube.. I've been watching Batman (W/ Adam West)

The real old ones that use to come on Satellite Star Plus before it got 'indianised'. Though YouTube and similar sites have a copyright policy by which they remove copyrighted material iffff they find it and so far its still there ...
Those of you who watch stuff on YouTube and want to archive some of it on your Hard drives check out
KeepVid or
VideoDownloader2.0. You'll be downloading the .flv file and if you want to convert it to any other format check out
Total Video Convertor.
This video revolution on the Internet comes after the p2p and mp3 revolution. With prospects of the internet (hopefully) getting better in Pakistan, there are lots that can be done here too... What do you guys think and what else have you seen?
EDIT: aaaah fuck!! YouTube removed some of the tvshows the digg guy uploaded... damn
