It's GUARANTEED that their packages will be 'far far' cheaper than anything WC is offering right now.

Following is what I got from a news website. More specific info. about the sort of network Wateen will be implementing.

Motorola has announced that it has been selected as primary supplier to Wateen Telecom, part of Warid Telecom International, to plan, design and deploy a nationwide wireless broadband voice and data network in Pakistan, with initial deployment to be completed by the second half of 2006.

The Motorola solutions and integration services are reportedly the first step for Wateen to make Broadband Pakistan a reality. Motorola will provide the the access network, subscriber units, IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) core and services.

The 802.16e-based MOTOwi4 WiMAX access network and subscriber units will enable Wateen Telecom to offer broadband data services covering residential and corporate voice, internet access, corporate IP virtual private network (VPN) and public hotspots.

Integration with Motorola's IMS solution is expected to enable Wateen Telecom to offer consumers VoIP services and enhanced residential voice features such as caller ID, voice mail and call forwarding. Differentiated services such as pre-paid and simple web-based subscriber account management are also included.

For business customers, Wateen Telecom will offer a hosted VoIP solution with traditional business PBX and IP Centrex voice services.

Wateen Telecom is the Abu Dhabi Group's latest communication investment in Pakistan.

i doubt it will b tht fast ... atmost 512k ... not tht fast .. i mean it would ruin all others .. even dsl ... i doubt they would b allowed to give tht fast a service ... n yeah HDs would b required :P altho burning dvds is a better idea

i hate burning DVD's .... i like my stuff instantly accessible...

hmmm ... Seagate just released a 750 GB hdd ....

so you'll just have to buy a new one everyday !! plus burn 1 DVD-R


but realistically speaking ..... you're right kuli ..... interference and the low bandwidth/high user count problem will keep transfer rates pretty much in the range of what we are getting right now ..... maybe a slight bump ...
but im not expecting much from this ...


the price is going to be so insanely stupendous that only corporate users will embrace it .



so ..... nothing to get excited about here .... move along ....
