How Turboes make power

Isnt there a way to make the TURBO to work when you want it to ...

like ( I AM VERY CONFUSED HERE :S ) if i have a TURBOED civic and i am crusin ..... i would want my TURBO not to function @ all ... but when racin i would want my TURBO to start functioing ....

is there ANY WAY ?

dunno about you, but im running my car with the turbo off [i removed the fuse] until badboy4life replies. i think if u have the turbo he talked about above, which runs off the pressure of your exhaust line, you cant switch it off. i could be wrong, as usual...

u wanna save on gas
take the fuse out and keep the revs low
run the car like that for a while u shud get a considerable gain in fule avg

ofcourse there is ..actually there r two ways to save up on gas and not use the turbo
u cud keep the revs low shift gears early and not floor the throttle all the way down
this way ur exhasut gas velocity wont ever reach the stage whr its enough to spin the turbo turbine to that certain level whr it starts compressing air
and the turbo wont kik in
and whn u do want it to kik in just down shift and floor the throttle

the 2nd way is to get an electronic boost controller
wat a boost controller does is that it controls a pressure release valve(called the wastegate) thats already present on every turbo
whn ur not racing u cud turn the "BOOST" down frm the electronic boost controller
to zero pounds
that will premently open the wastegate and let out any air the turbo compresses b4 it enters ur engine
and whn u start to race u cud turn up the BOOST to the desired level
that wud close the wastegate somewhat and ull have a proper functioning turbo
ofcourse if ur not too lazy u cud skip the electronic boost controller
get off ur ass and open up the wastegate manually by hand
and close it whn ever u race!!

i used to own a 2002 merc e class bak in 2002
we usually took it to the motorway
wid cruise control on and speed locked at 130kmph the car gave an avg of 13.5kmpl
but widout cruise control it gave sumthin like 11kmph
and yes i suspected the tranny to cut down on rmps whn the trubo wasnt working cuz
the fuel management system of ur car is programmed to run wid a trubo which starts makin power after 2500rpm's
whn the turbo is not detected by the car's computer it doesnt let u go upto the turbo range
changes gears b4 the turbos working range

yaar u all guys talkin abt fuel consuption ..... app ki car turbo may kitna kerti ho gi 11kmpl jaisa k kissi nay mention kia ..... meri santro plus without any turbo thingee 7 kmpl kerti hai ...... ab mujhay bataoo k ager may turbo set kerwaun to mera kia haal ho ga ...... santro with 7 kmpl can u imagine ..... hun sirf aik cheez ki huee hai may nay uss k carborator jets nozel khulwayee huee hai which makes some flames when u just push accelerator pedal wid no mercy. laikin ho sukta hai may kuch ursay tuk wo bhi kaam khatum kerwa dun.... its takin a hell lot of fuel

yaar freak greddy doesnt make turbo's
it just makes kits
i usually buys the turbo's frm sum other comany assembles a kit
and markets it
a T3 turbo is a good choice for a civic
small
fast spooling
khair a t3 turbo itslef wud be aorund 150-200 dollars
and the whole complete greddy kit is for 85 thousand i think
but in 50 thousand u can get a complete kit custom made here
which will be faster than a greddy kit

Yeah true if dad finds out i am goin for a turbo in his car he is gona kill me not coz i am installing a turbo but coz after spending 100k on laptop still spending 35k on turbo.
