Post ASUS SK-II vs SS-PRO vs AC FREEZER 7 PRO SHOOT OUT

Until few days back I used to wonder about the performance of locally available Asus CPU coolers. I read couple of reviews on the net about those coolers but none was able to provide me with the performance details I was looking for. You must be wondering the reasons for that? Well here are few I would like to highlight.

No 1; Surprisingly, some reviews won’t even bother to mention the ambient temperatures at the time of testing, one of the most important factor to evaluate any cooler’s thermal performance as it uses air to dissipate heat.

No 2; Sometimes no mention what kind of test bed was used, like whether the testing was performed outside the case or inside the case? Usually temperatures in an open case test don’t go as high as in a close case, the later being the operating environment for majority of us.

No 3; Well, actually i always wanted to test these against my all time favorite middle weight champion AC FREEZER 7 PRO.

Fortunately, these days of wonder soon got over when I received the following two Asus coolers from Shingtech for review.

ASUS SILENT KNIGHT II
ASUS SILENT SQUARE PRO

I immediately decided to pitch these against AC FREEZER 7 PRO.

As the scope of this SHOOT OUT is more towards the performance of these coolers rather than there packaging and construction details, I will still try to give readers a short brief about packaging and construction stuff.

good work.
i've used all 3 coolers at various times in my life, on different cpus.

the Freezer 7p i had once many moons ago. it is silent, i'll give it that. but for me, asus star-ice though hell of lot noisier gave better thermal performance.

had asus allowed an after market fan to be placed in the sK, or had used a 120mm fan, it would've been killer. i used it for quite a while with my core2duo and core2quad, amazing looking esp. if u got a window in ur case. i wont call it a *super* cooler but from whats locally available it is the best u can get

the Square was nothing short of a nightmare. i had crappy temps no matter what i did. i was looking to see why when a anandtech article showed the way. the initial batch or a certain batch had a faulty mounting mechanism. u needed to slide a plastic (etc) card underneath the plate to get it mount right!

Yeah these are all sort of mid end coolers. 120mm would have increase the size as well.

Yeah i heard and read the same and was expecting it with my sample as well but fortunately it was a revised model. Though i still don't like their odd fan size. I was hopping to use it with my 92mm Vantec, capable of producing more than 78 CFM.

except FIREBLADE from rest of house i have a question ... keeping aside installation n price difference .. just from LOOKS pt of view ... which cooler is better among these two (AC is out of race :P)

im planing to get SS PRO which has very minimal difference in performance n considerabley cheaper than SK II ...

quick word from my side got my ss pro today n installed it after just going through manual .. was pretty "CONFUSED" about attaching which backplate with xfx 630i .. si finally i used the wider one ... n was a clean fit ... as most of my board was empty n acant ...
khair i OCed my 2.2ghz to 314x9 and ran occt for more than 30min n temp didn even touch 50c .. so i guess mine was a fine fit ... keep up the gud work fireblade
