1080i gives you leprosy Stay far far away

and NO 1080p is not better just because 720 < 1080

Crash bandicoot, if you want to avail your self of 1080p on a 360 you will need to find an HDTV that supports a VGA connection, because thats how it works, with tiny pixies and stardust

Guys guys..........you are only mixing things up

Some facts.

- Resolutions heirarchy is like 480i<480p<720p<1080i<1080p
- X360 doesnt support 1080p. The maximum for X360 is 1080i
- 1080p is only viewable over a digital connection i.e. either DVI or HDMI
- for 25K you will not be able to get any hdtv even if its noble
- True HD resolution starts from 720p. Below this it is not considered HD
- True HD screen will always be widescreen

No as far as I know 29" noble only supports 480p and there are some models with 720i but still X360 can be connected to it via cmponent cable. So to enjoy atleast a descent HD resolution you would have to increase your budget to around 60K and you can find models in noble/philips but I am not sure whether those will be widescreen or not. Increase your budget a lottle more to 1K and then you can find the base HD screen in either lcd or plasma. Sorry mate, it still out of our range......

There are two methods.

Either use the S-video cable or you must have got a dongle with your 7600gs with component output. These are three outputs i.e. red/green/yellow which can be connected to TV's component input, but you would have to set the resolution of your windows according to your TV's resolution as Tvs dont have any scaling option like computer monitors.

As of fall update ... Xbox 360 fully supports 1080p over component/VGA

Not true ... 1080p is a signal like 720p ... HDMIhas got nothing to do with carrying this signal .. but it is true that 99% devices which support 1080p have HDMI inputs and ofcourse HDMI is the preferred method

Noble 29" HDTV is for 25k ... now i know its not a Samsung plasma .. but it does the job ... the graphics are comparable to a JVC HDTV CRT i saw .. Colour seperation is not as good as sony but again 25k ... i have the 34" model and simply love it ... Have 2 hdtv devices connected to it ... and the difference bw SD and HD is huge ... i will try n post a few pics (although cameras do tend to rape tv stills)

Your last 2 statements are correct ...

went to noble showroom the 29 inch one is absolute garbage, the picture quality is crap really. compare it ith the hdtv lcd u will c. anyways on the 360 dashboard options do u get display options like 1080p or 720p, i get resolutions like 1280x 1024 and so on. i have a viewsonic vx924 tft and now i dun c the need to buy a 29 inch big tv really. its bigger though but i dont think worth it, the worth ones are like 60k.

Agreed......I just quickly googled it and am fascinated that X360 now supports 1080p through a simple software upgrade.

Quote:
What does this mean? Basically, HDTVs use a fair amount of circuitry and processing power to decode incoming signals before displaying an image on the screen. Because HDMI has long been planned to be 'the connection' for HD signals, most manufacturers have built 1080p HDTVs that are only able to accept 1080p via HDMI. Consequently, only a few 1080p capable HDTVs support 1080p signals via Component connections, which are generally restricted to 1080i. A few more 1080p HDTVs will accept an analog 1080p signal via VGA, but often only with the addition of a VGA-to-DVI dongle. To put it simply, trying to work with 1080p without HDMI is very difficult.
Source: _http://gear.ign.com/articles/735/735860p1.html

Now this is definitely confusing and what I have been reading around in past is that since 1080p requires more bandwidth it is almost impossible for component cable to carry this signal and so these are restricted to carry 1080i at most but some resources says 1080p is possible via component. Anyway the last sentene in the above paragraph says it all.

Now I have seen your Vista+X360 MCE thread and you told there you are experiencing 1080p on your TV. Is it on component or VGA???? Any problem you have found???

The 34 incher you have, is it CRT, if so I am sure its not widescreen. Whats the price for it and what resolutions/connections does it supports
