terrible ping in L4D =( ! help pls

ok guys so when i first bought this game my ping was 200-300 on a server which was actually pretty awesome but now im getting 600-1000 =( i havent changed or added anything new in terms of hardware and im not using wireless modem so what can be the cause of my sudden rise in ping , i know L4D works as a matchmaker , steam looks at your download location and sends you to a server closest to that location but why am i getting such high pings now =( heres a speedtest run of my connection




im not getting high pings in my other games like killing floor , team fortress 2 , counter strike source or even unreal tournament 3 this prob is only in l4d

which server are you playing on? In either case if you are not facing any issues with other servers then the issue has to be at the server end.

dude , i see a server with 200 ping when i join my ping rises to 500~ish =/ its not happening with my other games

which is why I am saying it is a server side, it may be producing higher pings as more people are joining in from outside the network. Moreover, there are chances that certain patch or update of your game would be messing with the latency as well. It does not make sense that if other servers (assuming they are on the same network as L4D server) are not giving out higher pings.

but crippler before i used to jump from server to server and i would get lower pings ... but now im getting higher and higher =/ everyone in the server aside from me is getting usual ping and no one is complaining about lag even this kid i know from india who has a 1MB dsl is getting better ping then me on the foreign server i play on =/

Try chaning the port through which you access the server or try another L4D server... it could be that the ports you are accessing are being blocked or scanned by your ISP as well... if all else fails, try someone else's computer on your connection, if the condition is not the same then you may need to reinstall either the game or windows...
