Dear Friends:
WE NEED YOUR HELP! On Saturday, October 8th, Pakistan suffered the worst national disaster of its history. You have seen the pictures of the devastation and tragedy that has struck millions. To assist with the massive relief effort in the country, OPEN chapters in Boston, New York, Silicon Valley and Washington D.C. will be working closely with reputable charity organizations on the ground in Pakistan. You can help us in four areas: 1. $5M of emergency drugs to Pakistan: We have an urgent request to raise $25,000 to support the delivery of emergency drugs in Pakistan. One of OPEN Charter Members has arranged for the delivery of $5MM of emergency drugs from Americare. Americare works with LIFE US (; 501c3 organization) to deliver drugs to the affected areas. LIFE US needs $25K ASAP to transport drugs from Islamabad to remote areas in Azad Kashmir and NWFP. I am please to inform you that OPEN-US (Boston, New York, Silicon Valley and Washington D.C.) have announced a contribution of $10 K! We are $15K short and, would like to request you to make a donation as soon as possible. Please visit the following URL to make your donation for this initiative: 2. Contributions through US Charity Organizations: We encourage you to make a generous donations through credible US Charity Organizations. This is your opportunity to make a difference to a very desperate situation back home. OPEN National Chapters have agreed in principle to support reputable US charity organizations for collecting donations. At this time we have identified Hidaya, UNICEF and Red Cross as genuine organizations donors can rely on for individual donations. Since these are all 501c3 entities, your contributions will be tax-deductible. Please visit any of the following URLs to make your donation: 3. Corporate Donation Matching programs: A key source of "force multiplication" when generating relief funds is Corporate Donation Matching programs. We are putting together a list of companies that have already announced donations and donation matching programs. You will also find a list of reputable relief organizations that have presence at ground zero in Pakistan. Please go to the following link to get a list of key tasks towards establishing and propagating a Donation Matching program at your company: 4. Winter Clothing and Blankets to Pakistan: We are working with another reputable organization, Developments in Literacy (DIL) to ship winter clothing, blankets and OTC drugs to Pakistan. Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has offered to fly supplies out to Pakistan from New York City. We encourage everyone to pass this around to your co-workers and friends. This is so important. Without these supplies, there is a great danger the death toll in the region will continue to rise. Based on the feedback from Pakistan, DIL is collecting the following items: Blankets (Used or New), Sweaters (Used or New), Sweatshirts (Used or New), Jackets/Coats (Used or New), NEW Socks, NEW Thermals, UNOPENED OTC Painkillers and Stomach Medicines such as Tylenol, Advil and Immodium. Please drop off your items by Friday October 14 at 1pm at the following location: Najmi Sarwar 300 E. 77th St., Apt 27A SE corner of 2nd Ave najmi@4dil.org 212-396-9777 OR Dinaz Subjally 10 Crestwood Drive Chatham , NJ 07928 973-822-3222 Work 973-635-6984 Home 973-769-1605 Cell For alternate locations, please write to <mailto:shahidskhan@hotmail.com> Please forward this message to your friends and co-workers. The Organization of Pakistani Entrepreneurs (OPEN) is a voluntary not-for-profit association dedicated to the promotion of entrepreneurship within the Pakistani-American community. The organization was formed in 1998 by a group of Pakistani-American entrepreneurs and corporate executives and registered in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the year 2000. The association's charter is to provide networking opportunities and enhanced business opportunities for entrepreneurs and professionals of Pakistani heritage in North America. OPEN meetings and events are open to the public. OPEN has chapters in New England, Silicon Valley and New York.
OPEN Chapters have boards comprising the most successful Pakistanis in various fields such as: finance, technology, telecommunications, retail, etc. in North America. OPEN regularly organizes events pertaining to current issues in business and entrepreneurship. Last year, OPEN announced a business plan competition with a prize of $50,000 to encourage young Pakistanis to come develop their ideas and have them reviewed by an impressive panel of judges. The competition was a resounding success and was very well received in the press.
