Thumbs down New Tariff for Electricity announced, get ready to pay more

According to new policy announced by Federal Govt. yesterday, Electricity tariff will be calculated according to these formulas.

1- 4 hours in evening will be considered as "peak hours", charges for peak hours will be 2 to 3 times more than the charges for units consumed in off peak hours.

2- Different rates for consumers using 100, 200, 300 units and so on are eliminated. If you are consuming more than 100 units you will fall in next category, and all your consumed units will be charged on higher rate, similarly if you use more than 300 units you will be charged 5.65 for all 300 and plus units, and Rs. 10 for all units if you exceed 700 limit.

Previously it was Rs. 3.08 for first 100 units
Rs. 4.08 for next 200 units
Rs. 6.53 for next 300 units .....and so on

New Tariff:

ii 1- 100 Units - 3.08
iii 1- 300 Units - 4.43
iv 1- 700 Units - 5.65
v Above 700 Units - 10.00
b) For Sanctioned load exceeding 5 kW -
Peak Rate Rs. 12 /unit
Off-Peak Rate Rs. 7

Example: If you consumed 600 units in a month then your bill would be Rs. 3690 after all taxes (including GST , Electricity duty, rent for the meter that you in fact purchased once)

Now it would be Rs. 4049.6 (Tax included) Difference of Rs. 360 at least.

(Also see KESC tariff increased from 40-70% (Zardari Sab par Bharii)

Looks like our "businessman" President is convinced that all Govt earning will come only from utility bills that people will pay.

and the logic being given behind the logic of peak hours is : it will help reduce the load on system ....... I am what the F!

Instead of building dams and cheap power sources; just make sure people of PK die!

They took U-turn on foreign policy; despite whole nation hated it; screwed the economy... but they didn't had the balls to screw few jerks who don't want big dams to be constructed.

This is why politicians thrive and we suffer.

u raise a very good point about peak and off-peak use of electricity.
its been always like that, as long as i've been checking tariff guide on IESCOs website.

the funny bit is that they've been around forever, but i've never seen them implemented.

They already have TOD meters installed on tube wells used for agriculture. Now I don't think they can do it for the rest of the country so they definitely they will ask some statisticians, mathematicians or may be "Phapha" Raja Pervaiz Ashraf will do it himself, Total bill /6 x 3 times the unit charges...simple is not it ?

Note : Hydro Electricity produced by WAPDA still costs it a few pennies a unit. Every WAPDA employee enjoys 600 free units, even a peon or driver. I have noticed that they use Electric heaters in their rooms instead of gas.

damn

in my knowledge .. if we run a 100W bulb for an hour..it consumes 1 unit...and in a month we have approx 730 hours.... that means we are screwed....or at-least I am....running 1 PC with 19 inch monitor + router, ADSL modem + lappy all day....i m sure i alone will consume around 2k units per month...so my share in our bill would be around 20k rs.....

Your knowledge is scary .... one electricity unit is 1 kilowatthour ... it means that is if you utilized 1 kw (1000w) power for one hour you use one unit ..... applying this to a 100 watt bulb means you will use 1/10 of a unit in one hour (100 watt is not kilo watt) ..... so if u run a 100w bulb for 10 hours staright it will cost u one unit .... so take a deep beath and relax ...............

completely agree .... there is no way in hell that they can calculate someone's peak usage ........ wapda meters don't have a timer and they are not connected to a computer database either ...... it's just a hoax .... but what they will do is randomly charge you with peak hours unit .... like if total wapda load i 20 mw per day and peak hour load is 2 mw .... then it means 10% of units will be charges as peak hour units ...... it can vary ... but this is the only option ..... they can install certain equipment with meters to make count of these peak hour units but that will cost them a fortune so everyone will be treated equally badly for these peak hours junk that they have come up with

I wrote about TOD meters already installed on Tube wells. For residential customers it can be done mathematically. Source of this information is BBC Urdu..local media didn't bother to take a notice of it.

This suggestion was put forward by the ministry but was immediately turned down by officials.

What they're considering now is the removal of 'slab' system and implementing a flat out rate of around 4-5 Rs. for each unit consumed.

This would increase the bills in villages and for the less-privileged by 4-5 times, because previously they would have used around a 100 units at Rs. 1-2 per unit. Those whose bills were already in the range of 5-10K aren't going to feel a lot of difference.
