I'm buying a new monitor (22" 2232BW Samsung). Its native resolution is 1680X1050. I've a pretty lame graphic card (Asus 8600GT 512MB DDR2
). And I love to play COD4. Basically I want to upgrade, because I an madly in love with the GTA series, and have my finger crossed for the PC version to come out. And I don't want to miss the tiniest details of the game. 8600GT Works fine with my current resolution. But I highly doubt if it'll work the way it is at my current resolution. So, I want to buy a graphic card (don't have much budget for it, since I'll also be buying a new 650 Watts PSU, to go with the graphic card, I'm currently using PSU that came with my Desi 2000 Rs. Casing :P). Please suggest me a good 600+Watts PSU (crossfire/SLi Ready), it should be compatible with the graphic cards like 4850, 4870 and GTX 260... The 4850 is available for 15k, whereas 4870 is available for 25k. I would like to buy the 4870, because I feel it's a semi-future proof card. But will a 4870 be an overkill for a 1680x1050 resolution? Whichever card I buy, I want to be sure that it'll play most of the titles at maximum details and quality + eye candy. Maximum Support AA and AF! Last edited by hpa; 06-10-08 at 07:49 AM.. |

i own a 2232BW for a long time, and extremely happy and proud of it..
yes native resolutions is sometimes a problem on such high res,, but i use 8800GTS from my pc spec ,(check) and i play every game on max settings and they work just great.. so in practice , while 4870 would be the best thing, it is better to get a 4850 and enjoy COD4 and even the upcoming COD world wars and 5 as well.. it will last you that long for sure... 4870 is awesome, but a bit too expensive to buy.. if it was 21k , it would be unbeatable.. but right now, its highly overpriced |

@ farhan_cs
I'm also talking about AA though. I would like to play it on HIGHEST settings available with maximum supported AA. I really am not a hardcore gamer, but I've grown a sudden crush for computer hardwares .I also want it to run GTA IV on PC, when it comes out in November! |

get a 4870. Crysis, STALKER already kills any card short of a good SLI/XF. i am sure alan wake would do the same. infact farcry 2 is also a *good* candidate.
u dont want to buy a card and 5 months off think about what u did. infact if u could get ur hands on a 1 gig variant, do that. get a corsair hx or tx series psu. both are CF and SLI ready (620HX, 750TX). u can pull of a CF and SLI with a 520 watts, but thats cutting it a little too close for my liking. a 4870 CF rig at load pulls 444 watts (entire system) again i write this again and again, it isnt the total wattage that is important. it is where they are coming from that is the key. u need em off the +12V rail |

Get the Corsair HX Series, the cable management is easier (Plug as you need them). I bought 4870 Force3D version 2 weeks back and its a great card but as Ali bhai said, When i game takes the thing down it will take it down no matter what you throw at it.

i would go for TX or HX series corsair, and a HIS HD4850...
a 4850 runs everything perfectly on that resolution...spending 10k more on a 4870 wouldn't be wise, 'cause the difference will be clear on only some "high graphic" games...crysis and other games are thirsty for money...even if you put in a GTX280, it wont max out...hence, people SLi or xfire cards...so, other than these games, even a 4850 would be sweet enough...save the money and spend it on the PSU or maybe even save it for a change of pace... -peace stickman!

4850 is comparatively cheap but secure investment for now and later you can put another 4850 on XF to gain the push you need in future (i bet its in Christmas or max the coming Easter) and that means you need a XF ready mobo built around X48 chip to use every bit of juice your card can produce and such mobos cost around 20k..
so my vote is for 4870

what you guys are saying is completely untrue!
the idfference between a 4850 and 4870 is not worth the 10k imo. you will gain a 5fps advantage or so, not worth it. even then a 4870 would not be handle crysis 10000/5= 2000rs for 1 fps. how lame better getting two 4850s in crossfire but since u need a cross fire ready mobo it is not the best choice. so its best to stick with your 8600gt and save a bit more. it aint the best time to buy gfx card
