A little advice for u,

get 19" LCD b/c 1440X900 is better for current generation GPUs
and at that resolution, a 9600GT (now 10600/-) will be perfect for the games u mentioned

this will save a lot of money by sacrificing 3"

@thunderbird

Corsair 600Watt extreme power will run your Complete System and ONE high end card perfectly... no way an SLi of CF high end rig.. but even 4870 and GX260 are to run perfectly with even a quad on that PSU..using one myself and running perfectly everything... with headroom to spare

@hpa,
since buget isnt gonna be a constraint for you,, therefore you might wana spend up to 27k and get a 260GX.. that will not only cool and relax the Brand conciousness, but also get you a slightly less hot card than 4870..

that being said, no way is the gx260 WAAAYyyy better than 4870, its almost on par, and both run better in one thing or other in competition.. and almost equal.. 4870 is very hot, and very loud with the fan hack patch..

other than that,, buy a 4870 ONLY if you into FPS games... othrwise no need to spend additional 10k. a 4850 will run almost every game on almost every res...4870 matters most in Wide world envoirments like crysis, and HL2 etc.. not in racing and RTS..

plus a note of advice..
when you are already running at 1680x1050 resolution) you dont need any AA,, the picture is already TOOO sharp to notice any jaggies at all.. and better than AA is AF, which Ati cards also are a master of....so dont worry about AA,, besides you will already be using a DVI connection which is even more sharp than analogue..

i run Mass effect at 1680x on 2232BW, with ALL settings max, and 2xAA,, on my current card and sys Config (see specs)

I'm sorry that I'm asking this in someone else's thread, I have been planing to buy a graphics card too actually. I have a 17inch IBM Think Vision LCD.

Lenovo - Lenovo ThinkVision L193P LCD Monitor - Singapore

The maximum resolution that it supports is 1280 x 1024. Now, I was thinking of geting a 4850 myself. But 4850 can play majority of the new games on MORE then 1280 x 1024 resolution easily and My lcd can support only 1280 x 1024. Will I be wasting money on geting a graphics card that I cant even fully utilize? If yes, which graphics card should I go for keeping in mind my LCD.

if you neglect the big hype of crysis, stalker, far cry2 blah blah than you might be wasting your money on 4850. get yourself a decent and cheaper card like 9600gt which has become the perfect choice once again and it still playable for crysis @ 1280

Not really. I'm selling my xbox 360 for the sake of playing crysis and far cry 2 on PC. I was reading the reviews of 9600gt and it seems to struggle with crysis @ 1280 with filters on. Infact, from what I reckon, 3870 performs better than 9600gt in crysis.

i like the research you did...

i know around 5 people, besides myself, who own a 4850...no complains of ANY sort...runs EVERY game at max at 1280, and is rather future proof as well...atleast a year i must say...i would advise a used 4850 at around 12k, or get in imported for around 10k

-peace
stickman!

P.S. 9600GT might be good, but its nowhere close to 4850...
P.S.S. i always advise people to buy things which are either SUPER BAD or SUPER GOOD, dont hang in the middle in this case, 9600GT

Well.. I've been following this thread around. I'll happily buy a 4850, with a good PSU, and I'm set.
If... like sitckman said... it'll last at last a year. Then I think I don't have any problem with it. I can go XF after a year, and add another 4850 or perhaps another best high-end card of that moment.

Thanks to everyone. No more suggestions, as it creates confusion, and I, for one, can get confused really fast!

stick got crazy mad ,creating new models of Vga by himself.. since HE got his card free in exchange for services..

Services included being ultra nice for that particular week

@paranoid..
if you have a VGA that can play today games at above res than 128,, it means it will today games at MAX settings for you, and tomorrow games which wont play on High res ,, will work great at YOUR res of 1280x,,, and thus lasting you longer time than any other card that would just be adequate enuff for a few more months.. eg 9600 series..

@thunder bird

ALL of today`s card which are PCIE express , will work on ALL current and a few Future gen Boards as well.. current slots of card "OcieX" is here to last another 4-5 years..so it is All future prof,, and will work on All i7 and x58 as well..
