How flaky is SoundMax HD Audio driver?

1. Seems not able to function on more than one desk top under Win XP pro.
2. If "dxdiag" is run, crashes result that prevent normal reboot or shut down.
3. When Control Panel>Audio Devices>Voice>test hardware is used, it causes the same shut down trouble and reboot does not work without powering computer off.
4. Configuring DTS is confusing and awkward to use for 5.1 surround as no menu exists to specify when using SPDIF optical connection to amp and speakers. Existing menus in SoundMax show "no connection" even when the optical cable is connected and sound is playing correctly.

Several forums are documenting such trouble with SoundMax. I do not believe it is my system alone? I have the P5B deluxe WiFi mobo with Intel e6700 Core2Duo, running a nVidia 7900 GTX. Does anyone have a similar system or experienced similar problems from SoundMax HD drivers?
