Stuck at iOS 10 Update Process? How to Fix Installation Errors
Apple has released iOS 10 for all users today, following the big unveiling of iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus last week. If you are having issues updating your iPhone to the latest version of iOS, here are some of the solutions to fix iOS 10 installation troubles.
Tips to fix iOS 10 installation errors
During the installation process, you might receive “an error occurred downloading iOS 10.” These tips will help you fix iOS 10 Software Update Failed error among others. Before heading over to different solutions to fix iOS 10 installation troubles, close the process, go back to Settings and repeat it a couple of times. Still not working? Hopefully, one of the following solutions will help you fix iOS 10 installation errors.
Update using iTunes
This fix works for many users. If you cannot seem to update your iPhone or iPad to iOS 10 using the OTA method, connect your device to your computer. Launch iTunes and start the update process.
Using the IPSW files
This process is only recommended for iOS users who have had some experience with manually updating devices to the latest OS. You can follow our guide to manually download and update your device to iOS 10. Since you are directly updating with the IPSW files, you are not depending on Apple’s overworked servers to download the firmware file for you.
Waiting does the trick too
If you are not an advanced user, we wouldn’t recommend you to go for the above method. Instead, wait for a few hours or even a day before trying again. Apple sends its new updates to every iOS user on the planet, which means a lot of traffic. This traffic dies down after the initial few hours. Wait for a few hours and try again, and it might work without a problem.
Stuck at “Update requested?” Follow these tips
Due to the huge spike in traffic, Apple shows you an “Update requested…” message when you try to download and update your device to the latest software. While the download should begin after a while, it also gets stuck on the message and download process never starts. If your iPhone or iPad is also stuck at “Update requested…,” here are some tips to fix the issue.
- Ensure connectivity: Go to Settings and make sure that your network connection is working properly. Turn off the connection (WiFi and Mobile Data), and enable it again.
- iTunes! Again, as recommended above, whenever you are dealing with some installation issues, try to download the update using iTunes.
Finally, if nothing above works, hard resetting is the last resort. Hold down the Power and Home keys simultaneously for a few seconds. You will see the Apple logo on your screen. When your iPhone or iPad starts again, repeat the update process.
