The iPhone 5 was made available in USA soon after it was announced. Initially only network subsided model was available. AT&T, Verizon and Sprint all sell iPhone 5, with the 16GB model costing $199. All network subsided iPhones come with a two year contract. If factory unlocked iPhone 5 release does take place today as expected, then people who have been holding off on buying an iPhone can certainly rejoice.
Apple announced iPhone 5 back in September. It received mixed responses at first as iPhone 5 turned out to be more of an evolutionary model as opposed to the revolutionary one that most people were expecting. Sales figures have proven though that iPhone 5 is selling like crazy around the world, with it breaking all previous iPhone sales record.
iPhone 5 comes with many changes. The biggest of them is the new 4 inch Retina Display which adds an extra row of app icons on the Home screen. The build quality is excellent, as can be expected from Apple. Its also exceptionally thin and light as compared to previous iPhone models. iPhone 5 also has the new Lightning dock connector, apart from an 8 megapixel camera and iOS 6 as default.

The folks over at 9to5mac have received information from their retail sources that Apple may begin selling these unlocked iPhones as early as 9 PM today. The prices for 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models are expected to be $649, $749 and $849 respectively. According to them, factory unlocked iPhone 5 units have already reached Apple Retail Stores in the US. The company itself has not acknowledge these iPhones to be going on sale. They have not said a word about this.
It is certainly about time that Apple went ahead with the factory unlocked iPhone 5 release. For travelers it is an absolute nuisance to have a carrier locked iPhone, as it can not be used with any other carrier in the world except to the one it is locked to. Factory unlocked iPhone 5 is also a choice for those who don’t want to stay on one network in the USA. As soon as they go on sale, Apple will surely several dozen truckloads of them too.
