Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture – Amazing Looking CryEngine PS4 Exclusive Gets New Screenshots
Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture is a PlayStation 4 exclusive title from developer The Chinese Room, and Santa Monica Studios.
Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture™ tells the story of the inhabitants of a remote English valley who are caught up in world-shattering events beyond their control or understanding. Made by The Chinese Room – the studio responsible for the hauntingly beautiful Dear Esther – this tale of how people respond in the face of grave adversity is a non-linear, open-world experience that pushes innovative interactive storytelling to the next level. This story begins with the end of the world.
There hasn’t been much revealed for the game thus far, but the developers have released a couple of in-game screenshots, which can be viewed below.
Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture might be set in 1984, as the tweet below suggests.
The question is this: did round hay bales get wrapped in black plastic in 1984?

British apocalyptic science fiction from 1960 and 1970, has been a major influence for the studio in the development of Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture.
Amazing looking back over the screenshots how much the game has come on. The sense of place and Englishness is really there now in a big way

THE CHINESE ROOM IS AN AWARD-WINNING GAME DEVELOPMENT STUDIO BASED IN BRIGHTON, WITH SOME OF OUR TEAM WORKING REMOTELY ACROSS THE UNITED KINGDOM.Advertisement
We released our first game, Dear Esther, in February 2012 to critical and popular acclaim. Dear Esther went on to win ten major awards in 2012 and was nominated for many more, including 5 BAFTAs.
In 2013, we shipped Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs, a sequel to the horror classic developed by Frictional Games. We acted as a third party developer in collaboration with Frictional to create this game. Amnesia has become a cult title, and also gathered international acclaim and a string of award nominations.
We are currently working on Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, an openworld, post-apocalyptic adventure to be released on Playstation 4. We’re making this with Sony Santa Monica, and recently showed at E3, where the game was nominated for Best in Show by IGN and Gamespot.
