Apple planning on using OLED in future products?
Gadgets

An interesting classified ad revealed that Apple is looking for OLED engineers, could this mean that Apple is planning on implementing OLED in future products like the iPhone 4GS (iPhone 5?) or the upcoming iPad 2?

OLED is a great technology and has many advantages over AMLCD displays, which is being used in most of the Apple products now days.

OLED provides

  • Cheaper production cost
  • Brighter display
  • Better viewing angles
  • Much thinner compared to LCD which could in turn lead to thinner products.

Let’s hope we hear something along the lines of OLED coming in the upcoming iPhone 5 or the iPad 2.

Rumor states that iPhone 5 won’t have Home Button but will include Larger Screen.
Gadgets

A new rumor has surfaced which states that the new Apple iPhone 5 won’t have a home button at the bottom and that space would be reserved for a larger screen/display.

Assuming that the workspace remains of 960 × 640 pixels ,  could increase the height of thescreen to about 1,148 × 640 pixels (more or less, of course). Current applications exploit the conventional screen area, leaving off the pixels in excess seats in the lower part of the body or showing those elements that are currently hidden are displayed when you double-click the Home button.

This could be because the latest Android devices have little or no buttons and all navigation could be done form the touch panel so Apple’s trying to copy the same thing to integrate it in the next generation iPhone. Most of the iPhone fans/users aren’t in favor of this but they think the new design is creative.

Apple Rumored To Be Working On Cheaper iPhone; Possibility Of Edge To Edge Screen
Gadgets

Apple has been rumored to be working on the first of a new line of less-expensive iPhones and an overhaul of software services for the devices.

Apple is preparing to roll out a series of lower-priced iPhones to compete with other smartphones on the market. The new models are expected to be sold at about half the cost of existing iPhones.

One of the people, who had seen a prototype less expensive iPhone late last year, said it is intended for sale alongside Apple’s existing line. The new device would be about half the size of the iPhone 4, which is the current model. Hence, would possibly have an edge to edge screen.

The new phone, one of its code names is ‘N97’ (No it’s not the Nokia Phone) would be available to carriers at about half the price of the main stream iPhones.

Also, it has been rumored it won’t have internal storage on board. Keep in mind Apple makes many prototypes out of which only FEW come out.

Verizon iPhone 4 sees the return of the death grip.
Gadgets

Back when the iPhone 4 was orignally launched in mid 2010, users had complaints regarding loss of signals when holding the phone. Apparently what they call the “Death Grip” position, hold the phone in that way will make you lose signals, both on cellular and 3G. Verizon now had just launched the CDMA version of the iPhone 4 and seems like pretty clearly that the problem hasn’t been addressed. See the video below to have an idea of what the ‘Death Grip’ is and does:

As you can see, the video clearly shows that when the phone is held in the ‘Death Grip’, it experiences significant loss of signals in both 3G and cellular, resulting in lower browsing speeds.

Also, it has been reported that using the phone in landscape mode, it can cause a loss of WiFi signals.
