Earlier today Apple finally released iOS 6 for the public. iOS enthusiasts around the world are excited about this new update and they want to get their hands on it right away. As you may know, there’s a right way of doing something and a wrong way of doing something. This iOS 6 install guide for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch will teach you how to get this latest update on your device without causing you any problems whatsoever.

iOS 6 is packed with amazing new features. It contains all of the goodness iOS 5 brought to the table, and then some. Major improvements have been made to the native apps such as Mail and Phone. There’s a new Maps app that Apple itself has developed, it provides extraordinary mapping experience in 3D. There’s the Passbook app for all your electronic ticket and voucher needs. The default theme has been tweaked as well.

Enough about the features for now, you can find out more about them after you’re done installing this new update. Just be sure to follow this iOS 6 install guide to the letter. Pay close attention if you want to install iOS 6 on a software unlocked iPhone or a jailbroken iOS device. Before you begin though it is imperative that you make a backup of the data on your device. You will also need to download iTunes 10.7, as older versions of iTunes do not have support for iOS 6.

First lets address those who don’t rely on software unlock and jailbreak. If you fall in this category, simply pick up your device, launch Settings.app, tap on General followed by Software Update. You will be automatically prompted that iOS 6 is available for your device. Tap the affirmative choice and then sit back, relax and let your iOS device download iOS 6 and install it on its own. You don’t need to do anything else, the whole process is automated. The update is sent to your device over-the-air and it is automatically installed. Once the process has finished your device will reboot and once its back up, it will be running iOS 6 firmware.

There’s also a manual way to do this. Simply download iOS 6 IPSWs for your respective device. Then launch iTunes, connect your device to the computer, select it from the left side bar, press and hold Shift key on PC or Option key on Mac and click on Restore. Select the IPSW you previously downloaded and iTunes will begin updating the firmware on your device to iOS 6.

If you rely on a software unlock or a jailbreak, unfortunately there’s no way of installing iOS 6 at the moment which would not eliminate both options. An iOS 6 jailbreak is yet to be developed, apart from the fact that newer generation devices such as iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPod touch 5G, iPad 2 and New iPad are harder to jailbreak. Same is the case with developing a software unlock for iPhone.

You can follow the steps listed in this iOS 6 install guide if you can part with the jailbreak, but software unlocked iPhone owners should know that their phones will cease on work on their networks should they upgrade to stock iOS 6 firmware.

Come on, who doesn’t love The Simpsons? This animated series has been around for a really long time on TV and has grown to become a much loved pop culture icon. Back in March earlier this year Electronic Arts released The Simpsons: Tapped Out for iOS devices. However the game was taken offline quickly. After being offline for nearly six months, the said game is now available for download from the iTunes App Store.

For some people the entire concept of jailbreaking an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch might be too complicated, but it does bear fruit. A jailbroken iOS device opens up a plethora of options for configuring your device in a way Apple would have never allowed it to be configured.

There’s a new jailbreak tweak that went live on Cydia today and it is absolutely a must have for jailbroken iPhone owners. The Turn 2 Hangup jailbreak tweak allows you to reject incoming calls on iPhone by simply turning it upside down.

If I remember correctly, back in the day there were some Nokia cellphones that had this same functionality. This feature is particularly useful for situations in which it would be hard to look at the screen of your cellphone even if it is just to reject an incoming call. Just by turning the iPhone face down, an incoming call can be ignored. All this is achieved with the help of the iPhone’s accelerometer.

That’s not all though. Turn 2 Hangup jailbreak tweak as a couple of other interesting features as well. For example shaking the device will automatically mute the ringtone. The same motion can also cease vibration on the device. There won’t be any additional icons on the Home screen after this tweak is installed from Cydia, but a menu is added in Settings.app through which this tweak and its features can be turned ON or OFF.

The best part is that Turn 2 Hangup is available as a free download. You can get this tweak right now from BigBoss repository in Cydia. The developer has not provided any specific iOS version with which this tweak is compatible with, my guess is that it would pretty much work on any jailbroken iPhone. Yes, you do need to have a jailbroken iPhone to install and get this tweak to reject incoming calls on iPhone by turning it face down!

Pinterest is a new social network of sorts which drove more traffic than Google Plus a couple of months back. Users have mixed reviews about Pinterest, some absolutely adore it while others don’t like it at all. Nevertheless in a bid to be more mobile the Pinterest app for iPad was made available for download today. That’s not all though, the network has released an app for Android devices as well on the Google Play Store.

Recently Pinterest also opened up the network to the public. Previously an invite was needed from a Pinterest user to access the service. Today marks the release of the first ever native app for Android, as well as a brand new version specifically for the iPad. The iPhone and iPod touch apps have also been updated with performance and stability improvements.

The features across these apps are pretty much the same. Users can pin, repin, follow new users as well as browse new content straight from the app itself. In terms of design, the Pinterest app for iPad does not disappoint while also being aesthetically pleasing. The app offers all of its functionality in a simple yet seamless manner, which takes out the element of complexity.

Having great mobile apps is just one of the pre-requisites of building a great social network. Facebook has been dominant for so long because it has particularly focused on its mobile apps. The guys over at Pinterest seem to believe in this too and by far the job they have done with their mobile apps is truly amazing.

These apps have been rolled out today at a party in San Francisco, California. The Pinterest app for iPad is already live and available from download from the iTunes App Store. The universal binary weighs in at just 18.5 megabytes. The app required iOS 5.0 or later firmware and is compatible with the iPad, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod touch 3G and the iPod touch 4G.
