iOS 10.1 and macOS 10.12.1 Public Beta is now available for compatible devices. The update is free to download.

iOS 10.1 & macOS 10.12.1 Sierra Public Beta is Absolutely Free to Download and Install

Apple released the first developer oriented beta of iOS 10.1 and macOS 10.12.1 yesterday and it was clear the Public Beta would follow suit soon. Just a day after, that notion has become a reality as iOS 10.1 and macOS 10.12.1 Public Beta are now available to download, and that too absolutely free.

If you’re looking to install both the betas onto your devices then please make sure you take a complete backup of everything beforehand. If you have a Mac then backup your files and documents using either Time Machine or an external storage medium. iOS users can use iCloud or iTunes. As long as your files are backed up and safe, you’re all good.

Once you’ve made your mind regarding the Public Beta, simply head over to beta.apple.com and enroll yourself for the download. iOS users will get the update over the air while Mac users can download the new pre-release build from the Mac App Store.

In terms of features macOS 10.12.1 Sierra is a pure bug fix and performance enhancing release whereas iOS 10.1 is aimed towards iPhone 7 Plus users specifically. iOS 10.1 adds the much-awaited depth-of-field effect to the Camera app, allowing you to take portrait shots with a blurred background.

We highly recommend installing the above mentioned betas on a device that are not currently your daily drivers. But given how stable the developer oriented betas are, I would personally suggest going ahead as there isn’t much risk involved. But still, treat the piece of software like a beta. Nothing more, nothing less.

Wrap Up

The full and final version of iOS 10.1 and macOS 10.12.1 will likely see the light of day in a few weeks time. Till then, if you want to get onboard the bandwagon, Apple’s Beta Software Program is the way to go. If you do not feel like toying around at all, then waiting is the route to take.

If you did manage to install iOS 10.1 or macOS 10.12.1 Public Beta onto your iOS device or Mac computer, then be sure to let us know about it below. We will keep our readers updated regarding more updates as they arrive, so stay tuned to our coverage.
