You heard it right, Sequel to Bioware’s Highly Successful Dragon Age will be using DirectX 11 features. The recently revealed PC system requirements of Dragon Age II revealed that the game will be using DirectX 11 features. The DirectX 11 features will include both tessellation and compute shader support for “specific applications” in-game. This means better visuals other the previous game without sacrificing performance if the developers do it right.

The Lead Graphics Programmer Andreas Papathanasis has said that most part of the game may not be tessellated as the base mesh density is high to begin with but other features would help in improving the Terrain Quality which will look noticeably better. This means that the console part of the game would be a bit downgraded as it doesn’t support DX11.

Other then that, Papathanasis also said that the Graphics/Quality settings can be easily configured and even if you have a old rig, you can change the settings to which suit you most. Note that the game will also use DX10 and DX9, so if you got a older DX10 card than the effects will almost be the same as DX11 except the high end one’s such as tessellation. This news also hint’s that Bioware’s upcoming Mass Effect 3 could also use DirectX 11 features, The game is to be released later this year along with a new DLC content for Mass Effect 2.
