Apple iPad Air vs Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1
The iPad Air is getting praise from most of its reviewers as a perfect tablet. The iPad Air posses a next generation 64 bit SOC not to mention Apple’s impeccable history in the tablet department. Whether or not the iPad Air has a competitor in the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1, we check out here.
iPad Air Vs Galaxy Tab 3 – Hardware Overview
The iPad is lighter ( 469 vs 510g), slimmer (7.5 vs 8 mm) than the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1. Even with the aluminum used in the iPad, it is 41 grams lighter. The Galaxy Tab uses plastic for the body. Although looks are subjective, the iPad Air arguably looks better with its slimmer bezels.
The display on the iPad is substantial due to its 2048 x 1536 resolution, while the Galaxy tab manages a horrendous 1280 x 800. It is simply a hopeless comparison, a handsome 264 ppi vs a low 149. Although the Galaxy Tab will serve well with its screen, overall the screen on the iPad is also of higher quality with better specifications all-round.
Coming to the hardware side, the A7 chipset by apple never ceases to amaze. With its newer dual ARMv8 cores, it makes short work of older dual cores out there, beating quad cores easily also. The cpu in the Galaxy Tab is the dual-core Intel Atom Z2560 running at 1.6GHz, it cannot hold its own infront the mammoth A7. It is easily routed by the Galaxy S4’s S600 chipset which in turn is beaten by the iPad’s A7 chipset.
There will be nearly no problem when considering the radios on both devices, each cover up the fundamentals like WiFi,3G etc. Considering the camera, both the devices have pretty much good cameras. The higher 8 MP camera on the iPad does help it get more detail and it produces slightly better colors. The Galaxy Tab offers only a 3 MP camera. The difference becomes apparent only in indoors. The iPad’s picture has a bluish tint to it.
The battery of the iPad Air (8820 mAh) trounced the one on the Galaxy Tab 3 (6800). Point of fact here is that iOS provides better battery life against Android. You will be covered on the media front on both tablets. Both will be able to play movies and run Apps, not that it matters much the Apple App store will have more amount of apps.
The Price of the Galaxy Tab is $140 below the iPad Air. That is a big difference. Get the new Nexus 7 2013 if you do not require a 10.1 inch screen. A better comparison of the iPad Air would be with the new Note 10.1. Although the Galaxy Tab is no doubt good, the iPad is better albeit at a higher price point.
