Alien: Isolation MotherVR Alpha Mod Now Available for Download
For the immersive horror that Alien: Isolation offers, many fans were disappointed that it does not include some virtual reality mode. Reddit user Nibre wanted the reality to be different, which is why he released a mod so you can play it this way.
The MotherVR mod is very easy to install (you only have to copy a DLL in the game folder) and once you do, you’ll be able to witness the horror of trying to escape the Xenomorph in VR. Of course, keep in mind that it is still a work in progress, so there are some problems that may affect the experience.
Also, it is important you know that the mod has some restrictions. For example, at the moment it is only compatible with Oculus Rift (CV1 and DK2), and it only works with traditional control methods such as an Xbox controller or keyboard and mouse. In addition, it is designed to be played seated. Fortunately, its creator is already working to add new features – support for HTC Vive is underway – and improve some aspects of MotherVR.
At the end of last year, SEGA admitted that they would like to see Alien: Isolation in virtual reality. Jurgen Post, who was then head of SEGA Europe, said that “it would be a dream come true” if there was a full version of the Alien: Isolation demo for Oculus Rift.
“We did Alien: Isolation about three years ago on Oculus Rift, it was a demo that was bloody scary,” said Post. “To bring that back to VR would be a dream and dreams can come true… VR will take time, but we will start releasing some titles just to learn. It is a platform for the future,” Post said.
Alien: Isolation is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One and Xbox 360. Will you use this mod to explore the space station in virtual reality? Let us know in the comments below.
