Just Cause 3′ Director calls it “Lighthearted, Campy and Just Silly”

Just Cause 3, director Roland Lesterlin characterises the game as “lighthearted” and “silly” and says that it’s not as serious as some other games in the genre.

I think it’s lighthearted. From the very beginning we’re always sitting there and checking out the world and saying ‘well, if I’m playing with physics and I’ve tethered someone up to a wall and then a car next to it and the whole thing explodes,’ well it’s just silly.

And then if you had a serious story next to it, it just wouldn’t really fit together, so our story has the same sort of humour in it. It allows us to be a little campy and fun. – Lesterlin

Just Cause 3 is being created by the New York division of Avalanche Studios, led by game director Roland Lesterlin.

Just Cause 3 will be set on a fictional Mediterranean island, Rico’s home island, Medici, where Rico must do battle against dictator General Di Ravello.

It will feature a map size comparable to that of Just cause 2, with the new setting being about 400 square miles. The volumetric terrain has seen a large increase, resulting in much more exploration potential, such as subterranean caverns and a much more realistic scaling of buildings.

The grappling hook and parachute are set to make a return with improved mechanics. It will now be possible to use the grappling hook towards an enemy and even shoot at him before impact. Enemies can be tagged before attaching the other half to the top of a building, sending them flying, you can even grapple an enemy onto a moving car and watch them get dragged behind the vehicle.

Sony PlayStation to Release 5 New Mobile Games on iOS, Android

In Just Cause 3, players can spend countless hours creating havoc and exploring underground caverns.

It’s unique and over the top action moments like this, that make Just Cause 3 so incredibly appealing and fun. Players can spend countless hours creating immensely fun and exciting opportunities in the extremely large playground of the Mediterranean island, creating havoc, and exploring to their hearts’ content. All three main areas will be available from the get-go. Throughout the huge playing area of the game, you will come across enemy bases and propaganda billboards that must be destroyed in order to capture an area. This enables the player to fast travel and save vehicles in that area.

I am personally very excited for Just Cause 3, and cannot wait to hear and see more of the game. With GDC just around the corner, and E3 coming later this year, we will probably have some new exciting footage of the game soon enough. We will bring you any new information on Just Cause 3 as soon as we get it.

Just Cause 3 is set to be released later this year for the holidays. The game will be available on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
