The world of P2P received a massive shock last week when Global Gaming Factory bid to buy The Pirate Bay at a dirt cheap price. The Pirate Bay has been responsible for massive amounts of traffic on the internet, because of being the single largest torrent tracker in the world. If the deal with GGF locks, it would mark the end of this file sharing sanctuary, right?
Hell no. Out of no where, OpenBitTorrent, an open, free to use BitTorrent traker raises to save the day.
TorrentFreak recently found out that OpenBitTorrent tracks almost every single torrent in The Pirate Bay’s index. I said “almost every single torrent” because it wasn’t possible for anyone to test the entire index tracked by The Pirate Bay, but anyone who has tested has got 100% results. So now even if Global Gaming Factory pull the plug on The Pirate Bay, we would still have somewhere to go.
Oh and in case you are wondering how to make OpenBitTorrent work with your Pirate Bay torrents, you just have to add or replace a tracker for the torrent you are downloading. For uTorrent/BitTorrent, just right click on the torrent and add the following tracker address:
http://tracker.openbittorrent.com:80/announce
udp://tracker.openbittorrent.com:80/announce
It would work with every single torrent you have downloaded from The Pirate Bay.
